I am trained as an epidemiologist, so most of my studies have been cross-sectional or longitudinal. By participating in RISE at UCSF I will learn an additional skillset in implementation and intervention science that would complement my strong epidemiology training. For example, implementation and interventions can be conducted based off my findings from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant. If certain Latino groups are more likely to smoke, drink alcohol, or have mental health problems then coping interventions can be conducted to improve these problem behaviors. Further, if depressed persons are self-medicating with e-cigarettes, interventions aimed at improving depressive symptoms can prevent or treat the use of e-cigarettes.
