I am originally from Paraguay, but came to the United States to study chemical engineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas. My initial plan was to return home soon after graduation, but halfway through college I decided to go to medical school in Cleveland and eventually I moved to Chicago for my internal medicine residency about seven years ago. Since then, I have decided to stay in Chicago long term and recently agreed to join the faculty of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago in July or this year.
