Dr. Obedin-Maliver is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist who is both clinically and academically active. Dr. Obedin-Maliver’s clinical practice is based at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs medical center (SFVAMC) where she serves as Chief of the Gynecology Division and practices full-spectrum gynecology including outpatient, in-patient, operative, and emergency care services. Her academic focus is on promoting the health of and well-being sexual and gender minorities which include but are not limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people.  Dr. Obedin-Maliver, is a co-founder and current investigator of The Stanford Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Medical Education Research Group (LGBT MERG) and a Co-Director of The PRIDE Study (pridestudy.org), an online prospective longitudinal cohort of sexual and gender minority individuals based at University of California, San Francisco. She also serves on the medical advisory board of the UCSF Center of Excellence for Transgender Health and is the Gynecology Lead on the Transgender Quality Improvement project at SFVAMC. Dr. Obedin-Maliver has also been active in health policy through helping to legally redefine consideration of sexually intimate partner status and remove the Medicare Non-Coverage Determination ruling on “transsexual surgery.” Other areas of active clinical, research, and advocacy activities include the genitourinary, gynecological, and obstetrical health of transgender people and women and the health of veterans.
