Marlena Hartman-Filson joined the Division of General Internal Medicine in 2017 and works with Dr. Maya Vijayaraghavan as a Clinical Research Coordinator. She assists Dr. Vijayaraghavan with two studies that focus on tobacco use in homeless populations and the implementation of smoke-free policies in supportive housing units. Marlena comes to DGIM from the Division of HIV, ID and Global Medicine, where she worked as CRC for several international studies on HIV and pulmonary disease. Prior to her time with UCSF, she served as an outreach worker for Street Outreach Services, a mobile medical van that provides urgent care visits and case management to the city’s homeless population. Marlena holds a BA from Carleton College, where she majored in Biology and minored in Women and Gender Studies.
