Diseases and Conditions
At CVP, much of our work focuses on specific chronic diseases that afflict vulnerable populations at high rates. Chronic diseases are life-long condition that can be managed, but not cured. Diabetes, heart disease (including hypertension), lung disease (including asthma), chronic kidney disease, and depression are just some example of chronic conditions of interest to us at CVP. According to the World Health Organization, chronic diseases are the leading cause of death and disability both in the US and around the world. Poor and minority communities have higher rates of chronic diseases. Importantly, although chronic diseases are common, costly, and deadly, most are preventable and can be managed effectively with the appropriate strategies.
